Let us now begin to look at specific types of eye conditions and how they would affect normal vision in terms of functional losses. First, a park scene as perceived with normal vision. If we were to look at the interior of a normal eye, with a microscope, we would see that the eye is made up of two distinct types of cellular structures which are shaped like rods and cones. The major distribution of the cells would be rods, within the peripheral retinal area, and cones most densely accumulated in the central retinal area called a macula.
