These are just some of the examples of how functional vision can be affected by common causes of blindness and visual impairment. There are approximately 1 out of every 20 people in the United States who are blind or severely visually impaired. And about 1 out of every 5 who are 65 years of age and older in the United States. As we live longer, and as the median age of the population continues to grow older, we will continue to see more people who are blind or visually impaired in the United States.
