Sometimes, these blind spots may be ring scotomas that are sparing most of the macula and foveal area of the retina. Early on in macular degeneration they may only affect one eye or have a more pronounced effect in one eye; however, macular degeneration is usually bilateral in nature and will continue to have more adverse effects as time goes by as it is a degenerative retinal condition.
